James Robertson (ca. 1740-?), Scottish Linnaean botanist, initially a gardener at the Royal Botanical Garden, and then became field-working associate of John Hope, Professor of Botany at the University of Edinburgh and King's Botanist. He was the first person to ascent Ben Nevis in 1771. The Scotch fir is the eighteenth-century name for Pinus sylvestris. D.M. Henderson and J.H.
