Elizabeth Frinsham Berkeley (1734-1800), daughter of Rev. Henry Frinsham, wife of Dr George Berkeley and mother of George Monck Berkeley. She was a friend of Catherine Talbot and a member of Elizabeth Montagu’s Bluestocking circle. She became a friend of Elizabeth Carter when her husband was made a prebendary of Canterbury in 1771. She inherited a large fortune from her mother. She was well-educated, reading French, Spanish and Hebrew. She lost in rapid succession her son in 1793, her husband in 1795 and her sister in 1797 (her younger son had died in 1775 at the age of nine).She edited a collection of her son’s Poems in 1797, and wrote an extensive preface. She also edited and published her husband’s sermons in 1799, and was a regular correspondent of the Gentleman’s Magazine.
