Brook William Bridges (1733-1791), 3rd Baronet, was the son of Sir Brook Bridges and Anne Palmer, daughter of Sir Thomas Palmer of Wingham in Kent. He was MP for Kent from 1763-1774. In 1765 he married Fanny Fowler, daughter of Edmund Fowler and heiress to the title Baron Fitzwalter; they had six daughters and seven sons. His daughter Elizabeth married Jane Austen’s brother Edward, and Austen often visited them at their house at Goodnestone Park, Kent, which had been built by Bridges’ father.
