Samuel Egerton Brydges (1762-1837) was a bibliographer and genealogist. His second wife was Mary Robinson, daughter of Elizabeth Montagu’s brother William Robinson, rector of Burghfield in Berkshire. He was MP for Maidstone in Kent from 1812 to 1818, and lived abroad, mainly in Geneva, from 1818 until his death. Montagu Pennington dedicated to him his edition of Elizabeth Carter’s letters to Elizabeth Montagu. He spent many years trying to prove that he and his brother were entitled to call themselves the Barons Chandos, but his claimed was rejected as spurious.
