Frances Bowdler, née Bowdler, was born around 1747 to Thomas Bowdler (1719–1785) and Elizabeth Bowdler, née Cotton (1717-1797), likely at the Bowdler home at Box , near Bath. Primarily known to Elizabeth Montagu as sister to Thomas (1754-1825) and Henrietta Bowdler (1750-1830), and companion of Frances Burney (1752-1840), with whom she was friends from 1773, there are no extant letters between Montagu and Frances Bowdler, and she primarily appears in enquiries after her siblings or members of Burney's circle. Frances Bowdler died in 1835.
