Jonas Benjamin (c1717-1779) was a naval officer stationed at Deal in Kent. He was Clerk of the Cheque, responsible for stores and repairs, and payment of tradesmen. Elizabeth Carter’s brother Henry Carter married his daughter, Anna Wilhelmina (1747-1808) on 11 October 1765, when she was eighteen.
