Alexander Fordyce (1729-1789) was a Scottish banker. Through unwise speculation in East India Company stock, his bank, Neal James Fordyce & Down, failed in 1772, precipitating a wider run on the London banks. Fordyce fled to France but returned and declared personal bankruptcy.
