Thomas Greene (d.1780) was the son of Thomas Green (1658-1738), successively Bishop of Norwich and of Ely, who had seven daughters and two sons, Thomas and Charles, who added a final e to their name. Thomas Greene received from his father the rich rectory of Cottenham and a prebendary of Ely. In 1751 he became chancellor of Lichfield and from 1757 to 1780 he was also Dean of Salisbury.
