Edward Brown (often referred to as Ned) was Montagu’s resident steward in Northumberland from 1766 to 1787. He married and had children. He was hired in 1766 by Edward Montagu to manage the Northumberland estates (see 29 December 1766 (MO 1701) , and was dismissed after 1787 when Elizabeth Montagu found discrepancies in the accounts of the coalmines in Denton. He continued his correspondence with Montagu, however.
