Rev Sir James Stonhouse (1716-1795), 11th Baronet Stonhouse, practised as a physician in Northampton, where he founded the county infirmary. He took holy orders in 1749 and in 1764 became Rector of Little Cheverell and Great Cheverell near Devizes in Wiltshire, but he spent most of the year at Bristol to take the waters, and from 1788 resided permanently at Hotwells. He inherited the baronetcy from his cousin in 1792. Montagu spells his name phonetically.
