Margaret Caroline Rudd (c1745-1798) was tried for forgery in 1775 along with Daniel and Robert Perreau. They were accused of forging a bond by William Adair and presenting it for payment to the banker Henry Drummond. Margaret’s trial was held on 8th December and attracted a large audience, but her lawyers were able to undermine the prosecution witnesses and she was acquitted, while the Perreau twins were hanged. Rudd had a brief affair with James Boswell in 1786.
