Samuel Shuckford (c1693-1754) was rector of several parishes in Norfolk, and became a prebend of Canterbury Cathedral in March 1738. He published two works on the subject of myth, which Elizabeth Carter found unreadable (Letter to Montagu 19th October 1773) and even Montagu Pennington admitted were dull and prolix. They were entitled The Sacred and profane History of the World, connected from the creation of the world to the dissolution of the Assyrian Empire (1728) and The Creation and Fall of Man (1753).
