Sarah Siddons (1755-1831) was a celebrated actress, and a member of the famous Kemble acting dynasty. She was best known for playing Shakespearean tragic heroines, and was particularly renowned for playing Lady Macbeth. Sir Joshua Reynolds painted her as The Tragic Muse.
