Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby (1752-1834) was the grandson of the 11th Earl of Derby (1689-1776), and succeeded him to the title. He was married twice; first to Lady Elizabeth Hamilton (1753-1797) and second to actress Elizabeth Farren (c.1759-1829).
