John Pitt, Member of Parliament for Dorchester (1751-1761) and Wareham (1761-1768) in Dorset. He was a second cousin of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham. His wife Marcia Pitt nee Morgan (1733-1818) was a lifelong friend of Elizabeth Carter. He rebuilt Encombe House in Dorset, which had been purchased by his father, on the ruins of the previous house.
